Faculty Workshops at the Library: Ebooks

Session Overview

In this session we will go over how to locate and access the different types of ebooks available to Franklin Pierce students and faculty through the DiPietro Library. A brief description and demo of the major ebook platforms will be covered. If time allows, we will also discuss some of the other free ebook resources available online.

Searching for ebooks in the catalog

The simplest way to find our varied collection of ebooks is as follows:

  1. From the library homepage, click on the online catalog link, which is the second option on the bulleted list.
  2. Select the Advanced Search tab, and select "E-BOOK" from the Location pull-down.
  3. Type search terms such as title or subject keywords into the search fields.
  4. Press Search.
  5. To access to full text of an ebook, click into the catalog record and scroll down the page until you see "Links" on the right hand side. Click the link indicated to gain access to the text.

Can I download FPU ebooks to my computer or reader?

Each ebook vendor specifies whether or not there is download capability for the vendor's ebooks. Below are some informational links for particular vendors:

There are several places online to find free ebooks. Most of these are free because they are out of copyright and therefore in the public domain, however, some will be more recent. Below are a few collections worth checking out:
