Generative AI and Academia

An introduction to generative AI for academics

Defining the Problem

Plagiarism

The most obvious use of generative AI as a violation of academic integrity is to turn in a piece of work that generative AI wrote or created for you.

Browser Extensions

The DiPietro Library upholds ethical principles in the use of technology and does not endorse or support the unethical use of AI browser extensions.

Faculty should be aware that ChatGPT is not the only threat to academic integrity.  For example, here are two examples of Chrome browser extensions that can work with Canvas, but allow the AI to answer quizzes and perform other functions. While the websites seem innocuous, the YouTube videos give clearer examples of how the tools can be used.
