Advanced Search

The DiPietro Library catalog is the place to search for books and print journals. You can try an advanced search on your topic or use the subject search. Some tips for using the catalog:

  • Try different variations on a search term, and try related terms as well. For example, you might try Native American, American Indian, and a specific tribe name. The results might all be slightly different, but each search could be useful.
  • If you do not get any results, double check spelling.
  • Use a book record to find other books- look through the subject headings to see if one might be useful.
  • Once you have located a book, you can browse for others on the shelf.

See below for links to some sample subject searches:

Requesting a book through Interlibrary Loan

How can I request ILL materials?

If you find a book while searching in the catalog that says Held by NHCUC or Held by Libraries Worldwide, then the book is not available through DiPietro library. To request these books, simply click on the blue Request Item" button in the catalog.

If you know the title of the book that you are interested in, but cannot find its record in our catalog, you may request materials online via RavenRequest.  You will need to create an account the first time you use RavenRequest.  RavenRequest offers additional benefits like being able to check the status of your request, seeing a list of materials you've requested, and submitting renewal requests.

How long does it take for ILL's to arrive?

It depends on the material (book or article) and the library filling the request.  The DiPietro Library sends out most requests the day they are received.  Articles that are sent electronically may arrive as quickly as 24 hours, but you should plan on 3-5 days. Books that come from a distance may take 7-10 days.

What if I need something faster than that?

We are not able to ‘rush’ items.  When planning your research process, allow the necessary time for any interlibrary loans to arrive.

What can I borrow?

We will borrow books, articles, and dissertations.  We do not borrow videos, dvds, or video games. Undergraduates wishing to borrow a dissertation will be referred to a Reference Librarian for research assistance.
