Things to Note About APA Style

  • Authors' names are expressed as their Last Name, First Initial, Second Initial (if it's included). Example: Rowling, J.K.
  • Only the first letter in the first word of the title, the first word in the second part of the title (if applicable), and any proper nouns (e.g., United States) are capitalized.
  • The title of the journal and the volume number are italicized.
  • The issue number appears in parentheses and is not italicized.
  • You do not need to use abbreviations (e.g., vol., no. pp.) to indicate the volume, issue and page numbers.

APA stands for "American Psychological Association," which developed the standards for APA citation style. APA is often used in psychology, natural and health sciences courses. If you're unsure what style your assignment requires, refer to the assignment sheet, or ask your professor.
