First-Year Research Guide

This guide provides resources on developing an inquiry question, finding background information, using the library catalog and databases, and developing a list of keyword terms

Creating Keywords

This video will show you how to formulate keywords for your inquiry question, which will help you find sources for your topic.

Alternative Keywords

You'll sometimes find that an initial search for one of your keywords in the databases may not yield any results, or results that are not relevant to your topic. This is why it's a good idea to brainstorm other words that could be used to describe your topic. Some examples:

teenager ► adolescent OR young adult

police ► law enforcement OR cops

protest ► activism OR social movements
