Your phone is a disease magnet. Here's how to safely disinfect it and the rest of your gear to help you stay healthy as coronavirus spreads.
Sanitize Your Smartphone
- Be gentle when cleaning your device.
- Do not use abrasive cleaning solutions like Clorox wipes that can eat away at oleophobic coating.
- Power down device, remove any cases, and unplug any accessories.
- Use a microfiber cloth or anything that's soft and won't scratch your phone.
- Start cleaning without using any fluids.
- If needed, use warm and soapy water--use sparingly.
- Carefully dry device with a new cloth.
- Avoid getting excess moisture around ports and buttons.
Clean Your Keyboards and Mouse
- Peripheral devices are more durable, so you can clean them more aggressively.
- Start by shaking device to knock loose debris.
- Use disinfectant wipes to wipe device, but avoid using harsh cleaning chemicals like bleach.
- Keyboards and mice aren't usually waterproofed: keep moisture to a minimum and dry everything off.
- Other cleaning options include:
